“The Fatigue Impact Scale (FIS) has been used extensively to assess the impact of fatigue on health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in multiple sclerosis (MS). The objective of this study was to estimate the minimally important difference (MID) of the FIS to facilitate the interpretation of the scale in patients with MS.

Data came from a cross-sectional study of 184 patients with MS. Anchor-based estimates of the MID were evaluated using patients’ ratings of their own health and a clinical rating of MS severity. Using the proportional odds model, estimates of the MID were evaluated by finding FIS score differences that corresponded to a 50% increase in the odds of poorer health. Convergence between distribution- and anchor-based estimates was assessed.

“Objective: Epilepsy is the most common neurological disease worldwide. We assessed the cognitive functions of Nigerian patients with epilepsy using the modified Community Screening Interview for Dementia (CSID) questionnaire.

Methods: Eighty-two Subjects (41 patients with epilepsy and 41 normal controls) participated in the study. The CSID was used to assess language, memory, orientation, attention, calculation, and praxis. The SPSS statistical package was used for data analysis.

Results: The mean ages (in years)

of patients with epilepsy and controls were 28.32 +/- 9.22 and 25.98 +/- 7.72, respectively. Previous attempts have relied on patient-specific templates and robotic systems to guide drilling tools. In this study, we report on improvements made to an image-guided surgical robot system developed specifically for

this purpose and the resulting accuracy achieved in vitro.

Materials and Methods: The proposed image-guided robotic DCA procedure was carried out bilaterally on 4 whole head cadaver specimens. Specimens were implanted with titanium fiducial markers and imaged with cone-beam CT. Errors of 0.08 +/- 0.05 mm and 0.15 +/- 0.08 mm were measured on the lateral mastoid surface and at the target on the round window, respectively (n = 8). Full electrode insertion was possible for 7 cases. In 1 case, the electrode was partially inserted with 1 contact pair external to the cochlea.

Conclusion: The purpose-built robot system was able to perform a safe and reliable DCA for cochlear implantation. The workflow implemented in this study mimics the envisioned clinical procedure showing the feasibility of future clinical implementation.”
